POST 7: CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME

 

I am currently studying musical interpretation with a mention in classical guitar, and I was very enthusiastic about studying this career and once you enter, you realize that there are many things that meet your expectations, but many others do not.

Mainly I feel that the career has not been updated to modern times, I understand that a music conservatory is very traditional, and in fact I like it that way, because maintaining a tradition of more than 500 years is really beautiful and interesting, it is travel to the past through music. But nowadays, in order to develop in the classical music scene, it is very important to have DIY tools, such as managing social networks, audio and video recordings and editing.

Even to compete in classical guitar competitions, you must send a video in the first stage, to apply for scholarships, masters or doctorates as well. It is also very common to see classical musicians whose careers have started thanks to YouTube or Instagram. and today they are able to lead a successful career thanks to that.

So the degree gives a lot of practical theoretical knowledge, which is very valuable, but if we don't know what to do with it in these modern times, it becomes a bit obsolete.

The other thing is that for this curriculum they added a fifth year, which if you add up all the years of the career, in reality it would be 9 years, 4 years of basic stage and 5 of higher stage and they do not give many facilities to get ahead. in fact I need to take two exams to finish my degree earlier this year, and I have been insisting all year without positive results. so they want me to do one this year and one next year... that´s the reason why many students says "Dificultad de Artes" to the "Facultad de Artes".
